The Law Department at the University of Bergamo, associated with ELFA (European Law Faculties Association), promotes and coordinates teaching and research activities in all disciplines of CUN Area 12 (Legal Sciences) and in the scientific-disciplinary sector MED/43 (Legal Medicine).
The Department aims for high quality in both theoretical and applied research, investing in the quality, relevance and impact of scientific publications, whether they are the result of individual activities or research groups and projects. Research excellence is also pursued by recruiting young scholars and researchers and by promoting interdisciplinarity and internationalisation. In this regard, it should be noted that five members of the Department were recipients of award research funds provided by the Ministry (FFABR) for 2017.
The Department is constantly active in participating in research projects at all levels (local, national, European and international) and regularly hosts visiting scholars and visiting professors from both EU states and other foreign countries. The Department and its members maintain constant exchange and cooperation with foreign universities, including:
The Department promotes the training and research of young scholars through a PhD in Legal Sciences, and this is where it is located. In order to publish research results and forge ever closer links with Italian and foreign universities, the Department promotes and funds numerous high-level conference initiatives.
Mission
The Department of Law pursues cutting-edge teaching and research, with the aim of following, analysing and understanding the rapid changes that characterise current times, starting with the transformation of national laws, the phenomena of internationalisation and globalisation and as well as pushes in the opposite direction that are becoming increasingly evident. Particular attention is paid to issues that mark national and international debate almost daily, such as, among others, the relationship between law and bioethics, civil and criminal liability, and the protection of human rights.
By adopting an interdisciplinary perspective and starting from solid scientific foundations rooted in the best continental tradition enriched by a strong international openness, the Department of Law aims to produce 360-degree research, covering primarily high-level theoretical profiles, but without neglecting aspects of applied research, more closely linked to the daily life of those working in the world of law.
The Department is also the administrative headquarters of the Single-Cycle Master's Degree in Law, reserved for official students of the Accademia della Guardia di Finanza in Bergamo
